John Gill Scozzafava, CPA, RIA, passed away July 8, 2004 at his home in Potomac, MD at the age of 72.
He was born April 30, 1932 in Albany, NY the son of John F. and Kathryn Gill Scozzafava of Port Henry, NY.
John graduated from Port Henry High School at the age of 16 and attended Seton Hall. He received degrees from both Holy Cross and the University of Maryland.
Mr. Scozzafava was a Certified Public Accountant and a Registered Investment Advisor. He was a partner with M. B. Hariton Co., which later became Laventhol & Horwath, and a partner with Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. The last few years he was a consultant with Homes, Lowry, Horn & Johnson, LTD.
John was one of three original founders of Our Lady of the Woods Academy in Bethesda, MD, now known as the Woods Academy, a Catholic, independent, co-educational day school. John was an avid golfer and a member of Congressional Country Club. He was also a member of the Rotary, and attended Our Lady of Mercy Church.
John’s true love was his family; his son John Coney Scozzafava, his daughter Kathryn Rose Scozzafava, and especially his beloved wife of 39 years Rose Taranto Scozzafava. He is also survived by his sister Karen and Jim Kennedy of Enfield, CT; brother Jim and Cheryl of Port Henry, NY, and his sister in law Joanne Taranto Baker of Norwich, NY.
